International day of Aboliation of slavery is observed on 2 december in all over world since 1986 . The motive of this day is to raise awareness about human slavery and put end on these kind of practices around the globe . According to International Labour organisations (ILO),over 40 million people on globe are victim of modern slavery .
 The term Modern slavery is a umbrella term , it cover various practices including child labour , human trafficking , forced marriange , debt bondage , sex workers . According to UN “any situation or type of exploitation wherein a person cannot deny or quit because of threats, coercion, violence, deception or abuse of power is considered types of modern slavery.”
India has a dirty histroy of human slavery, from British rule to till now the situation is not satisfactory.
< >In 2016 there were nearly 8 million people living in modern slavery in India. In terms of prevalence of modern slavery in India, there were 6.1 victims for every thousand people.National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) indicate that there were 8,132 reported cases of human trafficking across India .the state of Tamil Nadu, 351 of 743 spinning mills use bonded labour schemes, otherwise known as Sumangali schemes.
